Folamour is beaming when she comes to our interview. She’s wearing a bucket hat, as you’d expect, and her cheek-to-cheek smile is contagious—we barely started talking and we both laughed together. It’s no surprise; The French producer is adored by fans and crowds around the world for his light-hearted demeanor, his exciting floor-filling DJ sets and, of course, the many hats he wears (literally and figuratively).

We’re here to talk about Folamour’s new album, Manifesto, which he says marks the end of a long period of self-discovery. As a producer, DJ, musician, record label owner, and free-spirited creative, Folamour, whose real name is Bruno Boumendil, has come a long way since his debut EP Deep Rooted Vibes in 2014. Bruno is happy to know that I’m a fan. since hearing his CellarDoor EP in 2015.

Sound Dampening Kit

While there is a charm to lofi sound, you definitely need the ability to remove background noise if you want to. There are several ways to get rid of annoying noise in your DAW after a recording, but the easiest and most effective way is always to create the quietest recording environment possible.

There are many microphone reflection filters and noise reduction filters online at a good price. These are a great addition to your arsenal, but there are more steps you can take to ensure clear, anechoic recording. Try to record in the smallest part of the room with the microphone pointed as close to the surface behind you as possible. If possible, cover this surface and any surrounding surfaces with insulation (clothing or blankets will do). A rug on the bedroom floor is also a great and easy way to minimize sound reverberation. And finally, use a screen pop. This smooths out difficult syllables and reduces pops caused by air moving quickly towards the microphone.

If you use an Apple Mac or iPad, you already have GarageBand. It’s free and incredibly good for making music. It has a wonderfully clear and simple interface to guide you through your first steps in recording and mixing your music.
