When I heard about the new 50th anniversary box set celebrating Jimi Hendrix’s seminal 1968 recording of Electric Ladyland, I became apprehensive because I knew I had a journey ahead of me and maybe not the one I’d be able to write a review on. about this. major release. I reached out to those in power and they honored me with an early pre-release promotional Blu-ray disc containing the hi-res versions of the album. So yes, here we’ll be examining this groundbreaking album, presented in 96kHz, 24-bit resolution in its original uncompressed stereo mix and a new surround sound mix for the first time in uncompressed DTS-HD Master Audio and LPCM. The Blu-ray included with Electric Ladyland 50th Anniversary Deluxe Edition marks the first time a studio album in the Hendrix catalog has been remixed in surround sound.

Now that I’ve listened to this intriguing new mix a few times, I realize that some audiophiles might question this version of Electric Ladyland a bit… But I also realize that hardcore Hendrix fans will likely be in that… a lot. I think I’m a die-hard Hendrix fan. And I think producer Eddie Kramer is a huge fan.
