By merging the hit indie game The Escapists with the global phenomenon The Walking Dead, Team17 has taken the best of both worlds and now offers players the chance to play Rick Grimes as he takes on the hordes of walkers unleashed on the world. Rick is in charge of a group of survivors that includes many of the original comic book cast, including Maggie, Hershel, Glenn, and Michonne. Rick must ensure the safety of the group by finding a safe escape route from each area and completing multiple dangerous tasks to keep as many members of the group as possible alive. The game matches the timeline of the comics exactly, which means Rick must first fight his way out of Harrison Memorial Hospital and visit the Greene family farm before visiting destinations like Meriwether Correctional Center and Woodbury.
