Most updates range from track count improvements, feature updates and iOS apps, bridging the gap between systems native and HD and brings both closer.
First off, Avid has released one of the most exciting new features in years, PT Control, an iOS app that lets you control Pro Tools features from an iPad. Now you don’t have to be at your keyboard to control the mixing functions of Pro Tools. The app not only gives you the ability to “walk across the room” and control your mix, it also supports multi-touch gesture control of solos, mutes, pans, and automation modes. A computer mouse only supports a single click at a time. The app also seamlessly integrates with Avid Artist Mix and S3 control surfaces, allowing users to use the two together for navigation and softkeys. The app is free for iPad only (not iPhone) and requires Pro Tools 12.1 software.
As soon as you start Pro Tools, you will see the new “Dashboard” window. This replaces the old “Quick Launch” window, as it consolidates all the necessary functions related to creating and opening sessions. On the left are two tabs, Create and Recent. The Recent tab shows you a list of the 10 most recently opened sessions on your system. You can use the keyboard shortcut Command + Up/Down Arrow (Mac) to switch between the Compose and Recent tabs.
