Fabulous new release from these Canadians who stand out as one of the most innovative bands on the metal scene with their specific mix of death metal, thrash metal and progressive with a combination of up to four different vocal registers. His debut in 2000 with Into Eternity, as well as Dead or Dreaming (2001) and the powerful Buried in Oblivion (2004) made it one of the great classics and a couple of masterpieces. Two years later they continue to demonstrate their creativity with this “The scattering of ashes” that although it is true that it no longer enjoys the surprise effect of its predecessors in terms of vocal work, it is no less true that the machinery of these Canadians continues proving to be perfectly lubricated and willing to destroy our eardrums without any kind of concessions. The Disco begins with an intro “Novus Inceptum” as the main cues, but many results stem from “Severe Emotionally Distressed” and “Nothing” and precede a raw disco. This exclusive single from the album, Timeless Winter, details a new vocal range that features two voices that reflect Rob Halford’s Painkiller days. A cut, as I say, loaded with drama, rage and fury that includes 4 different registers when it comes to singing, a deep guttural typical of more extreme death, another guttural closer to the work of Swedish melodic death, the clean voice already known for everyone and, as I say, these Halford-style bellows that do nothing but surprise. And it is not in vain that they can offer all this modification of registers since of the four members of the band 3 are the ones in charge of generating clean and guttural voices in this recording. Ello’s son Stu Block (singer, lead), Tim Roth (guitar and vocals), Troy Bleich (bass and vocals) and von Jim Austin, the ultimate Wild-Drummer, met up with one of the leading men to hear a sound and destroy his double bass drum without any kind of concessions. “Out” feels like one of the most accelerated riffs on the album and it feels like Giving us a dose of extremely high-pitched Halford screams interspersed with the powerful rhythmic base of Bleich and Austin who doesn’t stop pounding their drumsticks for a second to then give us some truce with “Surrounded by night” that begins with a ballad format to progressively evolve towards a fast and melodic song where his very fast double bass drum work stands out once again. The most ferocious of the album can be found in the entries of cuts like “Eternal” but always up to the right point where the clean voices intersperse and where the melody and progressive passages dominate. We can see the same thing again in “Pain from breath” or the demonic “Paralyzed” in which we once again enjoy the fiercest screams on the album. Definitely Into Eternity is a great destination and a consolidation with one of the most innovative and fresh projects of the current metal scene along with aggression like Swedish death and melodic progressive and power. One of the most complete without a doubt. Marcel•lí Dreamevil
