About the Game
Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004, also known as FS9 or FS2004, was created with various historical aircraft such as the Wright Flyer, Ford Tri-Motor and the Douglas DC-3 commemorating the centenary of the Wright brothers’ first flight. The program included an improved weather engine that, for the first time, provided true three-dimensional clouds and true localized weather conditions. The engine also allowed users to download weather information from real weather stations, allowing the simulator to synchronize time with the real world. Other improvements over the previous version included better ATC communications, GPS equipment, interactive virtual cockpits, and more variety of autogen such as barns, streetlights, silos, etc. All I’m saying is in addition to “Create Flight”. The “Select Flight” and “John and Martha Comedy Styles” (see sidebar) options in the menu, add one that says “Race Pilot” and add a rudimentary progression factor to things.
Start with a single-engine Cessna at a small airport, haul things around for cash, gradually buy bigger and faster planes, and combine flying lessons with your grand tourer license-style ride. The series is suddenly opening up to a much wider audience (cha-ching, Microsoft!), surely that’s a good thing? Anyway, back to the present and really, what can you say? All that history aside, there’s nothing in Flight Sim 2004 that you’re not looking forward to. Better graphics of course (they’re really pretty now). A completely overhauled weather system that’s as real as anything we’ve ever seen before. The automatic landscape generation engine works much better than before with the respective terrains (which means cities now look like real cities when you fly over them).
