If we travel back in time to 2008, surely we are capable of remembering that stupendous homonymous debut by Friendly Fires that featured “Jump In The Pool” with a fresh and ambitious repertoire that placed the band at the highest point British indie (special mention to that “Kiss Of Life” from the reissue of the album that still echoes in our heads from time to time). And it is that the trio arrived with a perfect mix of dance, rock and tropical sounds with bases as frenetic as they are easy to memorize. However, the band’s future plans were different. With the release of “Pala” three years later, a rather continuous album that had the support of Paul Epworth (Adele, Florence And The Machine) in the production, he expressed his intention to become a project in which electronic music was the authentic protagonist, adding an extra disco point to his tour that would mark everything that came after.

Well, eight years later, when we thought the end of the group was final, we found ourselves talking about a third studio album that introduces them to new sound paths and serves to reaffirm that electronic sound that they began to develop in the past. It’s as if the group had a pending account with their sound identity and that need to settle it had made them come back. “Inflorescent” is a popular house and disco song from the eighties Cut, which is intended to be sung in the band in the front lines of the European Festivals of the Next Years. Friendly songs that dry cut any rock thread that had been loose from the essence of the group in its beginnings. And that they are marked by the production of Mark Ralph, also guilty of the “Communion” of Years & Years between several years. Without a doubt, this is the band’s most pop album, with which Ed Macfarlane intends to show us all the satin shirts he has in his closet and do some tacky choreography for us live. And it is that much of the success of the return of Friendly Fires to the industry resides in the great charisma of the leader and his ability to refill us with energy through his voice with this album, bright enough for the general public to be able to chew it and swallow it without problem.
