Metallica is an American heavy metal band from Los Angeles, based in San Francisco. Their repertoire includes fast, uptempo, melodic, instrumental, and aggressive musical rhythms, and there are no great pioneers of thrash metal or the Big Four of thrash bands associated with Slayer, Megadeth, and Anthrax. Like the 1990s releases Load and Reload, Metallica tried to get closer to the alternative rock that was making success at the time to gain a new fan base, but was accused by their former fans of “selling out” to the record labels. In 2000, Metallica was launched among several artists who took legal action against Napster for comparing material protected by author directories or band member approval. A resolution was made, and Napster became a pay-to-use service. The follow-up album Death Magnetic (2008) was produced by Rick Rubin and was more favored. In 2012, a band that has its own record company, called Blackened Recordings, and acquired the rights to all its studio albums.
