BTS (Korean: 방탄소년단), aka Bangtan the RR Bangtan Boys, is a South Korean boy band formed in 2010 and debuted in 2013 under Big Hit Entertainment. Originally a hip hop group, their musical style has evolved to include a broader range of genres. The septet, made up of members Jin, Suga, J-Hope, RM, Jimin, V, and Jungkook, writes and produces much of its own output. His lyrics often deal with mental health, school-age youth issues and growing up, loss, the journey to self-love, and individualism. His work also frequently references literature and psychological concepts, and includes an alternate universe story.
After debuting in 2013 with their single album 2 Cool 4 Skool, BTS released their debut Korean-language studio album Dark & Wild and Japanese-language studio album Wake Up in 2014. The second album The group’s Korean studio album, Wings (2016), was their first to sell one million copies in South Korea. By 2017, BTS entered the global music market, leading Korean Wave to the US and breaking numerous sales records.
