Juan García has previously been interviewed by Metal-Rules.com since his commitment to thrash metal was tremendous . His work with Abattoir, Agent Steel and the Evil Dead have achieved monumental status in the metal genre. Although the Evil Dead is very active, the man from Body Count has been very busy, traveling the world and playing various festivals in Europe. Metal-Rules.com sat down with Juan Garcia to talk about Body Count and, of course, a bit about the Evil Dead and Agent Steel.

I worked for a record company and did label production, it was a hip hop label. The label owner wanted me to do some rock music too. The idea was to see? Ice-T is hip-hop, Body Count is rock. He was interested in what they were doing at the time; they are friends of mine. I contacted Vincent Price aka Vincent Dennis. Who plays for Steel Prophet. I asked him what was going on and he told me: “We are working on the music.” I’m leaving, yes. New music? I want to hear something. He gave me a rough demonstration. I took it to other friends from another label that I thought would be a better fit for that label. That was Sumerian Records. They found out right away that Ice-T was involved, they were interested in the project and signed, but I wasn’t a member of the band at the time, I was just helping Body Count get their record deal. The band had booked a show with Slayer in Austin, Texas at a festival and they needed a guitarist because D-Roc, the guy with the hockey mask, Rest in Peace, died and they needed a guitarist. D-Roc was also a friend of mine. They asked me if he wanted to do the show. We did the show and then Ice-T said you were in the band. That’s all. They didn’t audition anyone and I knew the band and was very familiar with the material. I already knew Ernie-C and I knew D-Roc and Vince. He didn’t really know Ice well, even though he had met him in the past.

On whether the 2020 pandemic and anti-racism movement inspired him to write new music

Yes. These events inspired me to write new music. As events happen, I write down ideas. I write song ideas and things like that. Unfortunately, due to the pandemic, it has really slowed down our move with Carnivore. We had just released the album. We had a 20+ country tour planned and we lost everything in the summer. So we couldn’t even do a show for Carnivore. It’s strange to go in and write new music when we have a new album that we haven’t played yet. So, I just wrote ideas. Sounds like we need to re-release this record, maybe add some songs after the pandemic. As far as it sounds relevant, I always try to write in the future. I always try to write what I see coming versus what happened.
